Stump Grinding & Removal
An old stump attracts insects, sends up suckers, and gets in the way of mowing. Stump grinding chews the stump and main roots into chips well below ground level, usually in under an hour.
Before the crew arrives
Mark any irrigation lines, invisible dog fences, or shallow utilities near the stump. Wisconsin law requires a call to Diggers Hotline (811) before digging, and your pro will usually handle it.

Frequently asked questions
How deep do stumps get ground?
Most stumps are ground several inches below the soil surface, which is enough to plant grass. Ask for deeper grinding if you plan to plant a tree in the same spot.
What happens to the wood chips?
The grindings can be left to fill the hole, or hauled away for an extra charge. Many homeowners use them as mulch.
